Nurse Care Managers · Pierce, Kitsap, and North Thurston Counties, WA

We coordinate your mother or father’s whole care, so the person they are is never lost in the diagnosis.

We are a nurse-led team. When your mother or father needs more help than your family can manage, we help you sort out the doctors, the medications, and the decisions, and we find the right people for each part. When you would rather carry it yourself, we teach you how.

  • One team that sees the whole picture

  • Led by a board-certified gerontological nurse

  • With your family the whole way

Who This Is For

Does this sound like your family?

Most families call us with one of these.

Find the Right Support

What we hear

“Mom has fallen twice, and I am scared to leave her alone.”

“Dad comes home Friday and no one has told us what happens next.”

“I live three states away and I cannot tell how bad it really is.”

“There are nine medicines and no one is looking at all of them together.”

“Her memory is changing and there is no diagnosis yet.”

The Role

What a nurse care manager does

A nurse care manager is a nurse who helps your family make sense of everything around your mother or father’s health. The doctors. The medicines. Safety at home. The decisions that keep coming. We do not give hands-on care. We help you find the right care, check that it is working, and keep you informed.

We see all of it at once

Our nurse-led team holds the whole picture, so nothing falls between one doctor and the next.

We help you get more from appointments

We help you prepare the right questions, and afterwards we explain what the doctor meant and what to do next. When family lives far away, we can go in your place.

We keep you informed

You hear what changed, what we did, and what comes next, whether you live nearby or far away.

Why a Nurse Matters

A nurse’s expertise, entirely on your side

Ambient Aging is led by Amby Bowen, a registered nurse who is board certified in gerontological nursing, with more than twenty years advocating for vulnerable adults and working in aging care since 2010. By her team’s count they have guided more than 250 people through aging, serious illness, and the decisions that come with them. She is also a member of the Aging Life Care Association and the American Geriatrics Society.

With that training behind her, Amby reads the medical situation herself, so you get one clear picture instead of fragments. She spots what is being missed, like a side effect that looks like a new problem. And she talks to your mother or father’s doctors as a fellow clinician, so the right questions get asked.

How It Works

What happens when you call

01

You tell us your story

One of our team members is usually the first person you speak with. They ask a few specific questions, listen to what is happening, and stay involved from then on, coordinating visits and keeping up with how things are going. If we are not the right fit, we will tell you honestly.

02

We sit down with your family

If we can help, we meet your mother or father at home, look at the whole picture, and agree with your family on who does what. Some families want us to carry most of it. Others want to stay hands-on and call us when they need us.

03

We stay with you

We coordinate with the doctors and specialists, point you to the right community resources, and watch for what is changing. You stay informed and part of every decision. For families who live out of state, we go to the appointments too.
